My Bloom Explorer

Privacy policy

We built Bloom for curious kids and the adults who support them. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you and your family have. We've tried to write it in plain language — if anything is unclear, just ask us.

Who we are

Bloom Explorer ("Bloom," "we," "us") is an educational platform for children and families, operated from Quebec, Canada. If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your family's data, contact us at hello@mybloomexplorer.com.

A note for parents

Bloom is designed for children to use with a parent or guardian's knowledge and involvement. A parent creates and manages the account, protected by a password, and each child profile is protected by its own PIN that only the parent sets and controls — this keeps one child's profile private from another, and keeps the parent dashboard separate from any child profile.

Parents are responsible for keeping their account password and their children's PINs confidential. Bloom is not able to control or verify who a parent chooses to share this access with.

If you believe a child has used Bloom without a parent creating the account first, contact us and we'll look into it and remove the profile.

Information we collect

From parents, when you create an account: name, email address, and password. The parent account is created only after payment with Stripe succeeds. Stripe handles the card itself — we don't see or store the full card number. We do store Stripe's customer id, and sometimes the card brand and last four digits, so we can show billing status.

For a child's profile: a nickname (not a full name), an age range (for example 5–7, 8–10, or 11–14), a PIN chosen by the parent, a favourite category, and a username we generate from the nickname so the profile can be opened. We don't ask a child for their email address, home address, or other contact information.

Usage and progress information: what a child does inside their own profile, so Bloom can personalize their experience and so parents can see progress on the dashboard. This includes:

  • Articles and content read, games played, and progress made
  • Digital stickers or customizations they've unlocked through Bloom's gamification features
  • Categories and topics they engage with (for example, spaceships or math), plus related tags and time spent, which we use to suggest relevant content
  • Likes and bookmarks they've saved within their profile

This information stays inside Bloom to run and personalize the experience — we don't use it to build an advertising profile, and we don't share it with advertisers.

If you contact us: anything you include in a support or contact request. We save that message in Bloom so we can respond, and the Bloom team can read it when helping you.

Automatically, when you use the site: a short-lived session record that can include your IP address and browser type, so you can stay signed in and we can keep the site secure.

For payments: Stripe's customer id for your account, plus the card brand and last four digits if Stripe has shared those with us. Full card numbers stay with Stripe.

Automatically, through cookies: covered in detail on our Cookies page — session and security cookies to run the site, plus limited data from Tawk (chat on parent-facing pages), Stripe (payments), font providers, and video hosts when those features load.

How we use information

  • To create and run parent and child accounts
  • To personalize a child's learning experience within their own profile
  • To let parents track progress and manage settings
  • To keep accounts and payments secure
  • To respond when you contact us
  • To improve Bloom's content and features, including understanding which articles, topics, or games resonate most so we can create more of what kids enjoy
  • To let the Bloom team access data as needed to do this work, under confidentiality

We do not use a child's information to serve targeted or behavioral advertising, and we do not sell children's personal information.

Children's privacy

Bloom is intended to be used by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian, and we've designed our data practices with that in mind:

  • We collect the minimum information needed from a child to run their profile — a nickname, age range, favourite category, and a generated username, not a full name or contact details.
  • A parent controls the child's profile: creating it, viewing what's been collected, downloading a copy from the parent dashboard, and deleting it at any time from the parent dashboard (that delete is permanent) or by contacting us.
  • We don't use a child's information for interest-based advertising, and we don't knowingly allow third parties to do so on Bloom.
  • A Bloom parent account is created only after a parent completes payment with Stripe. Child profiles can be set up only after that paid account exists. This also serves as verifiable parental consent under laws like COPPA in the United States, which recognize a credit or debit card charge as a valid way to confirm a parent — not a child — is the one setting up the account.

If you're a parent and want to review, correct, download, or delete your child's information, you can do that from the parent dashboard, or contact us at hello@mybloomexplorer.com and we'll act on it.

Who we share information with

We don't sell your (or your child's) personal information. We share limited information with:

  • Stripe, to process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Tawk.to, to provide live chat support on parent-facing pages (the parents page, contact, legal pages, and the parent dashboard). We do not load Tawk on kids pages.
  • Resend, to send email such as welcome, verification, password reset, and contact messages.
  • Meilisearch, to power article search. Search words are processed on our servers; we do not send child profiles to this service.
  • Service providers who host our infrastructure and help us run Bloom, under agreements that limit how they can use your data.

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a child using Bloom.

Where your information is stored

Bloom is used by families in Canada, the United States, France and other parts of Europe, Australia, and the UAE, among other places. Your information may be processed or stored in a country other than the one you live in, including Canada. Bloom is currently built and maintained by a small, independent team, and we use established hosting providers to store data securely. We take reasonable care when your information is transferred internationally and are working toward more formal data transfer safeguards as Bloom grows.

How long we keep information

We keep account and profile information for as long as the account is active. If a parent deletes their account from the dashboard, we close it and keep a limited record (a soft delete) so we can handle billing, legal requests, or a later reactivation. Child profiles deleted from the parent dashboard are removed permanently. We also keep what we're legally required to retain (such as payment records) or what may remain briefly in routine backups before those are cycled out.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to file a complaint with your local privacy authority. Contact us at hello@mybloomexplorer.com and we'll help.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously, especially given that Bloom is used by children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above.
